While I was out this morning (December 20, 2014) picking up some medicine from the Walmart pharmacy for bronchitis and sinusitis, I noticed several things that I just couldn’t ignore any more. I noticed how very indecent some folks are dressing and behaving and how our society has become accustomed to this indecency. But it wasn’t always this way.
If my grandmother was still living and she saw what some of these folks are wearing these days, she would say, “That’s a shame before God!”
There was a time when folks had good sense and good taste and good manners.
What happened?
When we were children you could not fool a young man to drop his pants below his hips and expose any part of his buttock or underwear, especially in the presence of his mother, grandmother, pastor or teacher.
What happened?
When we were children you couldn’t fool a young woman to step outside of her home in her pantyhose or go out in public to the store in her pantyhose. But now they go out in public in their pantyhose and call the pantyhose leggings as if that makes them clothing or pants.
What happened?
If these behaviors and dress attires are so none offensive and acceptable to our society and to those who profess Christianity, why aren’t preachers and teachers and doctors and lawyers and judges and surgeons and dentists and college professors and university presidents wearing them?
If nothing is wrong or indecent with leggings being worn as outside clothing and pants sagging exposing buttocks and underwear, why not attend church dressed like that or take communion dressed like that or preach while dressed like that or sing on the church choir while dressed like that or go for a job interview while dressed like that?
When I was a child, there was a saying that said, “Monkey see – Monkey do.”
Monkeys do not know how to wear clothes. I wonder when did we start doing what we saw monkeys do.
I am just trying to keep it REAL.
