I have been taking communion for as long as I can remember. I have had communion in various churches and I have participated in the sacrament of the LORD’S Supper using various ceremonial rites. However, I have not spoken on the subject to any great extent since my conversion. I usually leave it up to the discretion of the worship leader/Pastor and denomination. However, in recent months, I feel compelled to say something regarding this most holy of sacraments.
I would like to make the following observations and assertions regarding The LORD’S Supper:
- The Lord’s Supper was initially the sacred meal of preparation that was observed by Hebrews/Jews on the day before the Passover Lamb was slain – commemorating the day when the Death Angel saw the blood of the sacrificed lamb on the doorposts of the homes of God’s enslaved people in Egypt and “passed over” their homes but killed the first born child of everyone else and everything else in Egypt.
- CHRIST Himself instituted this observance [The Lord’s Supper] just before He was captured in the garden, tortured and crucified.
- All participants in this meal of preparation had previously heard the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and were believers and followers of Christ.
- All of them had previously obeyed Christ’s command to repent and be baptized (buried) by submersion into water in His name and authority as The CHRIST – The Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world – The WORD become flesh, The Son of God Who Is The Living WORD of GOD and Who Was In The Beginning With God and Who is GOD.
As to what exactly did Christ mean when he said, “Do this as often as ye drink it” – I don’t know and I can’t say.
He could have meant that as often as the Passover Festival comes around each year and we have this meal of preparation that we should commemorate Him much like the Hebrews commemorated the Death Angel passing over them because of the blood of a lamb on their doorposts.
Now we have a more excellent Blood that has never been tainted with sin, pure from THE FATHER and undefiled by human copulation. And this Blood will wash all our sin away, reconcile us to the FATHER and cause hellfire and condemnation to pass over us.
Jesus could have meant for us to understand him this way or in any number of other sacred ways.
The Fact That God Passes Over The Sins Of Those Who Are Washed In His Blood By Baptism In His Name Is Reason Enough To Commemorate CHRIST – Our Passover Lamb – Forever.
Hallelujah!
